About Me.

Thank you so much for hopping onto my page to find out about my sugar-free adventures! Here's a little bit about me. Basically you'll learn that I'm the most normal person on the planet so if I can do it, so can you :)

I have never been on a diet in my life. I've simply always eaten relatively well and stayed relatively active.

Then I moved to Florida.

I spent thirteen months living and working in the most magical place on earth, and you can guess what living in Walt Disney World involves? A lot of sugar.

Oh my goodness it's the place I discovered Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, peanut butter flavoured ice cream, and Red Vines- the world's most addictive liquorice.  Not only that, but it's also the place I was deprived of chocolate buttons and creme eggs, which clearly gave me permission to eat the ones I did get my hands on in bulk.

I actually managed not to put on any weight or see any change in my skin when I drastically increased my sugar intake. I worked as a waitress which is more or less the same as working as a full time marathon runner and weight lifter. I spent my spare time playing in Disney World which anyone will tell you takes an outrageous amount of energy, and took full advantage of the free pool and gym in my housing complex.

Plus I knew I was going to be a bridesmaid when I got home and that the dress had to still fit me.

So I came home the exact same weight as I had been when I left, and the sunshine and salty air had kept my skin at its best.

Unfortunately the sunshine is not as powerful back in the UK, nor is the air as salty; meaning that continuing my sugar-fuelled diet back at home very quickly took its toll on my skin.

I didn't really put on any weight- I'd say I'm still about the same as when I got home, but my tummy got a little bit cuddlier and my energy levels reached an all time low.

I got to the point where I was eating at least one, if not more creme eggs per day, whilst getting increasingly upset about my lack of energy and horrendous skin.

Then lent came around.

I decided to give up chocolate. That should sort it out.

Then I came across a brilliant blog- katequitsugar.com, and that, combined with a few stories I'd heard and articles I'd read, inspired me to decide to attempt Davina's 5 Weeks to Sugar Free programme.

My plan is to simply follow Davina's book, try not to eat any sugar for five whole weeks and see how my body and my brain cope :)

I have not made the decision to quit sugar forever because a) I would have to be well and truly convinced by this experiment before I'm willing to give up all that I know and love for any longer than five weeks, and b) I honestly just do not think it's practical for the rest of my life.

For me this is a challenge-"Rebecca loves a challenge," my dad's girlfriend can frequently be heard declaring. I do love a challenge, and I don't partake in enough physical challenges, so this is me having a go, seeing if I can do it, and seeing whether the change in my body and my feelings is as dramatic and magical as everyone tells me!

Hop on here every few days to keep up with my progress, wish me luck, and feel free to leave your comments and suggestions :)
